Is all the online privacy talk focusing on cookies really just a distraction?
Do cookies really pose a risk to online privacy or are there bigger threats that are not being addressed due to the focus on cookies?
On this week’s episode of the 33 Tangents Podcast, Jason, Jenn, and Jim discuss their opinions on the discussion around cookies, how accurate they are, and if there are others aspects of online privacy that are being missed.

Customer privacy has become a sales pitch. Companies tout the security of their products alongside the other features of the experience.
Do companies really care about the privacy of their customers or is it all just theater?
Do they really believe that privacy is a key part of the customer experience or are they trying to do the bare minimum to meet regulations?
On this week’s episode of the 33 Tangents Podcast, Jason and Jim discuss where they think companies rank customer privacy as compared to other things.

On this week’s episode of the 33 Tangents Podcast, Jason, Jenn, and Jim discuss what online privacy means to them the threats they see to it. They discuss the responsibilities the technology and content providers have as well as the responsibilities of uses.

33 Tangents - Episode #171 - How Much Are We Giving Away In The Name of Free?
Wednesday Aug 04, 2021
Wednesday Aug 04, 2021
More than 25 years ago the commercial web embraced the advertising model over the subscription model for access to content. What we’ve seen is ever increasing data collection in order to provide more relevant ads to drive ad revenue for the purpose of supporting content creation.
How much are we giving away in the name of free access to content? When does data collection go too far? How can users be informed on the value they get from data collection without stirring up unreasonable paranoia?
On this week’s episode of the 33 Tangents podcast, Jim and Jason discuss the value of the information we provide and the experiences that are possible with data collected when online and using connected devices.

Wednesday Jul 21, 2021
We’re currently taking a break for summer vacation and will be back with new episodes starting on July 28, 2021.
On this week’s episode of the 33 Tangents podcast, we’re going way back to the early days. This episode was originally published on June 8, 2018.
There are many careers for people to choose from that have a predefined path from beginning to end, starting with school and ending with retirement. What many of us have found is that Digital Analytics presents something different, a career and industry that is wide open with people from many different backgrounds and educational training. After getting frequently asked how they got into this career, Jason, Jon, and Jim decided to talk exactly about this this week. They talk about what they went to college for, what they planned to, and the choices that led them here.

33 Tangents - Episode #168 - From The Archives - Talking Trust Culture with Dan Roden

We’re currently taking a break for summer vacation and will be back with new episodes starting on July 28, 2021.
This episode was originally published on August 23, 2019.
The business world is often thought of as cold and calculating. The only purpose employees serve is to make widgets and check items off a list. When push comes to shove, employees are cut loose when finances are tight. Employees are scared to reach out and ask for help for fear of being seen as weak, thought of as less, and someone else taking their job.
There are those that are trying to change it. More and more are talking about building a culture of trust within their business or organization. The key things with a trust culture is the ability to be honest and vulnerable in order to make yourself, your team, and your org better. Dan Roden is one of those people and he joins Jim and Jason this week talk about what trust culture means and how to go about building one.

We’re currently taking a break for summer vacation and will be back with new episodes starting on July 28, 2021.
This episode originally aired on October 9, 2020.
We’ve seen the trend of customers wanting more of a “relationship” with the brands & companies they buy from for quite some time now. Whether that be showing how they feel through social media or searching out companies that share the same values as them.
2020 presented a whole new set of challenges for companies trying to build that connection with the ability to have in-person interactions made very limited or not possible at all.
This week we’re joined by Charlie Roberson, the Head of Project Delivery at Verbate. Verbate offers their clients a simple to use, affordable video survey platform so that they can hear directly from their customers. Verbate is a distributed company with employees located both in the UK and Australia
Earlier in 2020 we were joined by Matt Barnett, the founder of Bonjoro. Verbate is the precursor to Bonjoro.

We’re currently taking a break for summer vacation and will be back with new episodes starting on July 28, 2021.
This episode was originally published on October 11, 2019.
This week Jim and Jason are joined by Carrie Bourke, Director of Customer Analytics and Insight at Harvard Business Review.
Prior to her time at HBR, Carrie spent times in analytics leadership roles at Clario Analytics, L.L. Bean, & Staples. Over the last 3 years Carrie has been a partner of 33 Sticks and during that time she has taken a methodical approach to building out a new digital marketing ecosystem.
Carrie’s plan to build and add new capabilities over time runs counter to what is the typical plan to rush and get everything built in a short period of time. Jason, Jim, and Carrie dig into what led her to take this approach and the benefits she has seen.
